About the Study

GAIP Autism Spectrum Disorder Research Study

Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics is conducting an IRB-approved research study evaluating the safety and preliminary effects of AdiaVita (umbilical cord blood-derived stem cells) combined with glutathione, compared to glutathione alone, in individuals aged 3 years and older with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The primary endpoint is the change in participants' Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) total scores from baseline to Month 6. Secondary endpoints include safety and tolerability, incidence of adverse events, and changes in quality of life and overall wellness.

This study builds on promising early clinical research, including Phase I and Phase II trials at Duke University, which demonstrated cord blood infusions to be safe and well-tolerated in individuals with ASD.

Research Purpose & Key Questions

🎯 Primary Purpose

Evaluate the safety and preliminary effects of AdiaVita (umbilical cord blood-derived stem cells) combined with glutathione vs. glutathione alone in individuals with ASD, as measured by the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) from baseline to Month 6.

🔬 Scientific Basis

ASD is associated with chronic low-grade neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and immune dysregulation. Phase I & II trials at Duke University demonstrated cord blood infusions to be safe and well-tolerated with no serious infusion-related adverse events in individuals with ASD.

❓ Key Research Questions

Is AdiaVita + glutathione safe for individuals with ASD? Does this combination show preliminary changes in ASD symptoms vs. glutathione alone? What are the incidence and severity of any adverse events associated with each treatment arm?

📊 Study Design

Two-arm study with crossover option. Arm 1 receives AdiaVita + glutathione. Arm 2 receives glutathione alone, with the option to crossover to AdiaVita at Month 3. Active IV treatment for first 3 months, with follow-up continuing through Month 12.

💡 Why this matters — the bigger picture:

  • Stem cell treatments typically range from $15,000–$25,000+ at private clinics — often without the oversight or research rigor of an IRB-approved study.
  • Many families have been traveling outside the United States — to Mexico, Panama, Germany, and other countries — spending $20,000 or more, with no long-term follow-up or safety monitoring.
  • This study offers a rare opportunity to access stem cell treatment right here in the US, at a fraction of the cost, under medical supervision, in an IRB-approved, scientifically monitored setting.
  • Located in Roswell, GA — in the North Atlanta metro area — this is one of the very few IRB-approved autism stem cell studies currently available in the United States.

What's NOT covered: Standard medical care outside the scope of this study (e.g., your regular pediatric visits) is not included. Participants are not compensated financially for participating.

🧬 What exactly is being studied?

The study evaluates the safety and preliminary effects of umbilical cord blood-derived stem cells combined with glutathione (an antioxidant) compared to glutathione alone in individuals with ASD.

The primary measurement is the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) score from baseline to Month 6. The study lasts 12 months per participant with a goal of approximately 100 participants.

⚠️ These treatments are investigational and are not FDA-approved to treat ASD. Benefits are not guaranteed.

📅 How long does participation take?

The full study lasts 12 months per participant. This includes:

  • Weeks 1–4: Screening and baseline assessments
  • Months 1–3: Active IV treatment phase with scheduled visits
  • Month 6: Primary endpoint evaluation (ATEC scores)
  • Month 12: Study completion and final follow-up

Each visit takes place at our Roswell, GA office. We work with your family's schedule and provide plenty of support throughout.

🏥 Is this study safe? Who is overseeing it?

This study has been reviewed and approved by BeyondBound IRB (Las Vegas, NV), an independent Institutional Review Board that monitors research studies for participant safety and ethical standards.

Because this treatment is investigational, potential risks and side effects are not fully known. All participants receive informed consent before any procedures begin. You may withdraw at any time without penalty.

🔒 Is my family's information kept private?

Yes. Your child's personal and health information is protected in accordance with HIPAA and applicable research privacy regulations. Study data is de-identified for analysis. You will receive full details in the informed consent form before any data is collected.

🚪 Can we withdraw from the study?

Absolutely. Participation is 100% voluntary. You may withdraw at any time, for any reason, without penalty or effect on any other care you receive at GAIP. Simply notify the study team and we will guide you through the process.
